Three more police stations are likely to be set up soon taking to
eight the number of police stations in Khulna city.
A gazette notification for the setting up of Labonchora, Arhonghata and Sundarban police stations is likely to be issued soon, Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner Shafiqur Rahman told New Age.
After the issuance of the notification, the process for the construction of structures and appointment of police personnel would begin, he said.
The existing five police stations set up in the city after establishment of Khulna
Khulna city needs more police stations as population has increased to 15 lakh, at least two times higher than what it was in 1986, when the Khulna Metropolitan Police was established with Khulna sadar, Sonadanga, Khalishpur, Daulatpur and Khanjahan Ali police stations, police officials said.
It is absolutely difficult with the existing five police stations and strength of law enforcers to maintain law and order and curb crimes as population is gradually increasing, they said.
Khulna is a port-cum-industrial city where criminal offences and business related activities are also increasing day by day, the police commissioner said.
Apart from these issues, labour unrests and political violence keep law enforcers awfully busy for maintaining law and order for which they cannot make time to pay enough attention to crime control affairs, he said.
