Law enforcing agencies, including the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), have taken measures to maintain law and order in the port city during the holy month of Ramzan.
CMP commissioner Shafiqul Islam said: “We have set up check-posts and deployed a large number of policemen at important areas and market gates.” Additional commissioner of the CMP, Bonoj Kumar Majumdar, said: “The police will intensify patrolling and carry out night patrolling. We will deploy special police teams in market areas.” The CMP will also provide security to banks and their clients.
Following the home ministry’s directive, the CMP has deployed 60 special teams to ensure security in the city. Besides, several mobile teams will patrol the city as well as vulnerable areas of the district, sources said. The CMP and district police have set up check-posts at key intersections. The police have begun checking baby taxis, private cars and micro-buses at the slightest suspicion and local people and passengers are helping them.
