The six clubs currently boycotting hockey activities, including Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Mariner Young’s Club, will meet today at the Mohammedan Sporting Club tent to discuss the current situation in the country’s hockey set-up.
The National Sports Council officially declared the results of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation elections on Wednesday, as the panel led by general secretary candidate Khaja Rahmatullah was elected unopposed.
The Shafiullah Al Munir-backed panel withdrew their nomination papers because of NSC’s five councilors from Abahani Limited.
Mariner’s representative Munir, who also ran for the general secretary position, said that they will discuss their position and reveal it to the media after the meeting.
‘We previously stated our desire not to participate in any hockey activities under
this committee and we will further describe and explain our standing to the media,’ said Munir on Thursday.
Munir said he is ready to sacrifice himself for the greater interest of the game of hockey in the country.
‘If the NSC establishes an ad-hoc committee without Mohammedan and Abahani, it would be better for hockey. I am ready to keep myself out if asked,’ said Munir, chairman of Mohammedan’s hockey committee, before adding that ‘the NSC did not act in the right way and the problem is gradually increasing.’
Apart from Mohammedan and Mariner, four other premier division clubs – Ajax, Wari, Bangladesh Sporting Club and Dhaka Wanderers Club – have also decided not to take part in any hockey activities under the Rahmatullah-backed committee, which may take charge on Saturday or Sunday.
