Nasaka of Myanmar handed over 75 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Bay of Bengal in Myanmar water area since two years, to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after ending their punishment.
A Battalion Commander level joint flag meeting between BGB and Nasaka was held at Mangdu of Myanmar on Thursday noon. Among the Bangladeshi nationals, there were 59 residents of Cox’s Bazar, five of Norsingdhi district, four of Patuakhali, two of Faridpur, one of Sariatpur, one of B’baria district, two of Chittagong and one of Bandarban district.
According to the BGB sources, the 8-member BGB team was led by its 42 Battalion Commander Lt Colonel Md Jahid Hasan while the 10-member Nasaka team was led by deputy director of sector-6 U Chou Mong.
The meeting was arranged to hand over the detained Bangladeshi nationals and discuss the issues of Rohingya influx, Yaba and drug smuggling protection. It was decided that the BGB-Nasaka will meet at least once a month, the meeting sources said.
After receiving the 75 Bangladeshi nationals from Nasaka, BGB handed them over to Teknaf police station.
Mohammed Farhad, Officer in charge of Teknaf police station, acknowledged this information and said, after verifying the identities, they were handed over to their families.
