Bangladesh trade fair in KL in Aug 15-17
Exporters of readymade garments are eyeing a bigger market share in Malaysia as 200 RMG products of Bangladesh are enjoying duty-free access to the market.
‘Bangladesh is the third largest apparel exporter country in Malaysia and we are expecting that our position will be strengthened in the market in near future,’ Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association vice-president SM Mannan Kochi said at a press conference at the association’s office in Dhaka on Saturday.
Mannan said the RMG manufacturers and exporters would participate in a three-day Trade in Bangladesh-2013, the largest single country fair in Malaysia, to be held in August 15-17 at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, where they would showcase 300 Bangladeshi products.
The fair is being jointly organised by BGMEA, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Headmaster Events, an event management company.
Bangladesh commerce minister GM Quader and Malaysia trade and industry minister Mustapa Bin Mohamed are expected to inaugurate the event.
Manufacturers will display their products including RMG, handicrafts, leather goods, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, plastic, real estate, agro, home textile and cosmetics in 242 stalls.
‘I firmly believe that the BGMEA and the BKMEA members who will participate in the fair in Malaysia will be able to uphold the quality of Bangladeshi products and the efficiency of the RMG sector,’ Mannan said.
He said that a high-powered business delegation of the clothing sector would visit the exposition and join an international seminar on the RMG sector in Bangladesh.
Syed SM Zafar, chief financial officer of Headmaster Events, said more than 20 companies from the BGMEA and the BKMEA would take part in the event.
He said, ‘Most of the international buyers consider Malaysia as an important link to the Asia Pacific region and have set up offices to explore the potentialities.’
‘We expect that buyers, sellers, exporters, importers,
manufacturers and distributors will be present during the fair giving your business the potent exposure for a Malaysian expansion,’ Zafar said.
Malaysia exported goods worth $1.57 billion to Bangladesh in 2012 whereas Bangladesh exported goods worth only $100 million to Malaysia in the same period.
BGMEA vice-presidents Shahidullah Azim and Reaz Bin-Mahmood attended the programme.
