A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League men stabbed a leader of the the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation at Rajshahi University on early Saturday.
Sources in the organisation said that Rajshahi University unit programme and planning secretary Sheikh Maruf Hossain was stabbed at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur RahmanHall at about 12:30am, when he, along with some other activists, went to the hall to settle a previous dispute with hall unit vice-president Belal Hossain.
Earlier, a few days ago, a laptop was stolen from a room of the hall for which Maruf had blamed Belal.
While Maruf and his followers entered room 231, Belal and Partha, another Chhatra League activist confined Maruf in the room and stabbed him.
Fellows rushed Maruf to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Maruf said, ‘I went to talk to Belal about the laptop which he took away from my friend Mamun few days ago and Belal and Partha stabbed me in the hand and back severally.’
Belal, however, denied the allegation and said, ‘Maruf at first heat me with Iron rod, later I only defended myself.’
Proctor Tariqul Hasan said that he was aware of the incident, but he would look into the matter if anyone lodged a written complaint.
