Bangladesh Bank and the CIRDAP will take joint initiatives for
promotion and development of SMEs in Bangladesh.
As a part of the move, the two organisations on Sunday arranged a programme titled ‘Joint initiatives of the BB and the CIRDAP for Development of SMEs’ held at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital.
The central bank and Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding on May 13, 2013 in bid to stimulate the SME activities.
Addressing as chief guest BB governor Atiur Rahman said the central bank always gave importance to communications and joint initiatives with different stakeholders.
‘Our initiatives are now going beyond the country. We have performed different programmes with international organisations, donor agencies and even with different high commissions and embassies.’
For SME development, joint initiatives, both nationally and internationally, are very important and the BB is committed to continue such initiatives, he said.
CIRDAP member countries are also involved in SME activities and they also feel that SME initiatives are crucially important for hastening inclusive growth of individual country, Atiur said.
The programme started with the welcome address of CIRDAP director general Cecep Effendi.
A documentary on initiatives of the BB and the CIRDAP was broadcast which focused important areas of interest of both the organisations.
Indonesian ambassador Wiranataatmadia, BB deputy governor Abul Quasem, and DCCI president Md Sabur Khan attended the programme, among others.
BB general manager Sukamal Sinha Choudhury told New Age that the central bank would take different types of initiatives to stimulate the country’s SME sector by receiving cooperation from the CIRDAP.
He said, ‘The BB will arrange SME fair in Bangladesh among the 15 member countries of the CIRDAP. Besides, we will exchange ideas about SME products and its marketing with other member countries of the CIRDAP.’
