In a fitting tribute to Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna on his first death anniversary, a statue will be installed at the Bandra bandstand alongside prominent personalities like Yash Chopra, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, reports Hindustan Times.
On July 18 last year, the 69-year-old actor passed away at his residence ‘Aashirwaad’ here after being critically ill.Entertainment channel UTV Stars plans to unveil Khanna’s statue at Bollywood’s official landmark – Walk of the Stars at Bandra bandstand promenade – early next month to commemorate Khanna’s inimitable style and charismatic smile.
The brass statue will immortalise one of his iconic poses. It will be unveiled by the actor’s family members among well-known names from the industry.
Khanna, the first superstar of Indian cinema gave 15 consecutive solo hit films during his golden period from 1969-72, a record that remains unbroken till tod ay.
Rajesh Khanna (born: Jatin Khanna; 29 December 1942 – 18 July 2012, Amritsar, Punjab, India)) was a Bollywood actor, film producer and politician. He was referred to as the ‘first superstar’ and the ‘original superstar’ of Indian cinema. He earned title of phenomenon following 15 consecutive solo hit films in the period 1969-72, a record that remains unbroken. Khanna is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. He married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973, 8 months before Dimple’s debut film Bobby was released and had two daughters from the marriage.
He app eared in a total of 180 films – 163 feature films and 17 short films. Since 1987, he held record for being the actor with maximum solo-hero Hindi films and by 2011 his tally was 106, though only 99 got released. He won three Filmfare Best Actor Awards and was nominated for the same fourteen times.
