Officials and employees of Nobel-winning micro-finance institution Grameen Bank will wear black badges on Sunday protesting the government’s reported plan to break up the bank into 19 entities and taking control over it. As part of the programme, the Grameen Bank employees of the head office will observe a sit-in in front of Mirpur central office from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm on the same day, President of Grameen Bank Karmachari Samity Shamshul Alam told UNB on Saturday.
General Secretary of the Samity M Mohsin Reza said the bank employees across the country will wear black badges from morning to afternoon. Later, they will hold a press conference.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the Grameen Bank Karmachari Samity protested the report on Grameen Bank prepared by the Grameen Bank Commission.
In a joint statement, Karmachari Samity president Shamsul Alam and general secretary Mohsin Reza said the Grameen Bank Commission, according to newspaper reports, will submit its final report to the Ministry of Finance on July 20.
