Rabbi Hasan’s level of performance, which landed him a gold medal in the 10-metre air rifle event in the Bangladesh Games, decreased significantly in the shooters’ assessment competition after seven weeks of training for 44 shooters at three different venues.
Asif Hossain Khan, Commonwealth gold-winning medalist, also produced a disappointing display after failing to ensure a place in the eight-shooters shoot-off round.
Rabbi finished fifth in qualification while Bangladesh Games’ silver medalist Abdullah Hel Baki topped qualification.
Bangladesh Games’ gold medalist Sadia Sultana, like Rabbi, was unable to repeat her performance while Commonwealth silver-medalist Sharmin Akter Rana came first in both qualification and the shoot-off round.
Ishfaq Ahmed, joint secretary of the National Shooting Federation, informed that they will trim down the 44-member squad on the basis of the performance evaluation test.
The training camp for the shooters will resume again on August 18.
Ahmed, however, added that they will soon arrange another training camp for the excluded shooters.
