Imrul Kayes scored 68 runs and Liton Kumar Das added 52 to lead the BCB Green team to a four-wicket victory over BCB Red in a practice match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing BCB Red’s 219, BCB Green got off to a fast start, with openers Kayes and Jahurul Islam putting together a partnership of 65 before Ziaur Rahman trapped Jaharul lbw in the 14th over.
The batting team kept up the pace, with new batsman Liton scoring 52 off 58 balls to take the total to 153 before retiring. Imrul followed him to the pavilion soon after, getting run out on 68 from 81 balls, leaving the rest of the order just 61 runs to score from the remaining overs to secure victory.
Kayes credited a shift in approach for his success at the crease.
“Previously I used to play a lot of shots in the early stages, but now I’ve gone back to my old batting style, getting set and then playing my shots,” Said Kayes, who was named man of the match.
Nasir Hossain’s quickfire 27 off 15 made the task academic, and BCB Green scored the required 220 with 9.4 overs to spare. The BCB Red bowlers were largely ineffective, with Mosharaf Hossain’s two wickets for 35 from seven overs standing out. Ziaur Rahman and Mominul Hoq also picked up a wicket each.
Earlier in the day it looked as though BCB Red might be poised to post a challenging total, with openers Anamul Hoq and Shamsur Rahman scoring 48 before Anamul’s dismissal in the tenth over by Al-Amin.
From that point on, regular wickets stifled the batting side’s progress, leaving them to defend 219. All seven BCB Green bowlers were among the wickets, with Alauddin Babu, Elias Sunny and Farhad Reza taking two apiece.
