Law enforcement agencies have taken extra security measures in the city and district to prevent any kind of criminal activities ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
At least 16 check posts were set up and 1200 police in 45 teams were patrolling the city from the first week of Ramadan, said Rashida Begum, additional deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.
She said the police were providing security to city’s shopping malls and other important areas so that none could create anarchy and commit crimes, including mugging, extortion and pick pocketing.
Additional check posts were also set up from Ramadan 10 to keep traffic smooth on the city roads, she added.
The police will also provide escort to transfer of cash from one place to another and ensure security at bus terminals, railway stations and launch terminals.
Khulna district police also had set up 54 check posts and 16 teams of law enforcers were patrolling the nine upazilas to ensure law and order, said Abdul Kader Beg, ASP of Khulna.
Five teams of Rapid Action Battalion were keeping vigil round the clock around city’s markets and shopping malls, banks and business organisations, said Mir Moddasser Hossain, additional police super and also special company commander of RAB-6 in Khulna.
