Two minor boys drowned in separate in Sylhet city on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Opu, 5, son of Ameer Uddin of Sadarpara, and Jubayer Ahmed, 13, a Class V student of UCEF School at Gasitula and son of Ilu Miah of Sheikhghat.
Family members said Jubayer, along with one of his friends, went to the River Surma for fishing at noon.
At one point of fishing, Jubayer went down in the river water as his net got tangled with something under the water. After that he went missing, said his family.
Informed, a team of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defense reached the spot at around 12:30pm and started a rescue drive, but failed to trace him out till 5:00pm.
Sylhet FSCD deputy director Erfan Ali Sonar told New Age that the victim might have been washed away from the spot by strong current of the river.
In another incident, Opu, a five-year-old son of Amir Uddin drowned in the pond of Block D at the Shahjalal Upa-Shahar Sunday afternoon when he was bathing with some other children.
Local people tried to trace out his body from the pond till midnight but failed.
Later on early Monday family members recovered Opu’s floating body from the pond.
Shahjalal Upa-Shahar police officer-in-charge Akhtar Hossain said they were informed of the incident and a case of unnatural death was filed.
