The participants in a daylong workshop on Thursday demanded unitary and equity-based inheritance and family laws to secure land rights of women.
They demanded effective strategies and programmes for advancing women’s land rights as a key to rural poverty reduction by empowering women and enacting women-friendly land law and policies.
Society for People’s Education, Empowerment and Development Trust organised the programme at its office under the Promoting Democratic Institutions and Practices project to share knowledge, information and lessons about securing women’s rights to land narrated in different religion laws, family acts.
Shamima Ferdous, the UNO of Barisal sadar, also took part in the discussion.
Female members of Public Policy Forum, representatives from different professions and religious communities participated in the programme to discuss case studies, findings, positions, exchange knowledge and experiences focusing on both opportunities and challenges
