Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia on Thursday called upon the government to restore the non-party caretaker government (CG) system by amending the constitution immediately to ensure a level playing field for all during the next general elections.
She made it clear that the demand of restoration of non-party caretaker government turned into a public demand and said no election would be allowed without a non-party administration.
“The Awami League led government has done nothing for the welfare of the people and that is why they are now afraid of holds elections under a neutral and non-party government,” the former premier said while addressing an iftar and doa mahfil organized by Bikalpadhara Bangladesh.
The election must be held under the caretaker government with the participation of all political parties, she added.
The BNP chairperson said the people want to get rid of the misrule of the present government.
“We want the next election to be held under a non-party caretaker government and we will win in the polls get the mandate to run the government for the next five-year term,” she added.
Bikalpadhara President Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury accused the government of creating the present political impasse centering the election time government.
“The country will fall into a serious crisis if the government doesn’t accept the demand for restoration of caretaker government.
The former President warned the government that the election must be held under the caretaker administration. “It is the last word of the people,” he added.
Bikalpadhara secretary general Maj (Retd) Abdul Mannan also addressed the iftar and doa mahfil which was held a Basundhara Convetion Centre in the city in honour of political leaders and dignitaries.
Eminent lawyer Barrater Rafique-ul-Huq, Krishak Sramik Janata League president Bangabir Kader Siddiqui, BNP leader–Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Selima Rahman, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, IOJ chief Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami, journalist Mahfuzullah, BRAC University teacher Dr Pias Karim, Bikalpadhara leaders–Dr Ruhul Amin Bepari, Mozaffar Ahmed, Mahi B Chowdhury, Mahbub Ali and Abdur Rouf Mannan and BJP leader Abdul Matin Saud, among others, were present on the occasion.
