Jahangirnagar University went into a 13-day vacation on Thursday, said a press release of the university. All regular classes and examinations will remain suspended from August 2 to 15 for Eid-ul-Fitr vacation while the administrative activities would remain suspended from August 7 to 12, JU registrar Abu Bakkar Siddque confirmed. Meanwhile, the administrative activities of Jahangirnagar University resumed on Monday following a High Court order after a 39-day siege by the Teachers’ Association.
JUTA has been demanding resignation of the VC Anwar Hossain since April 7 for not expelling JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel who assaulted a teacher on February 6.
On the other hand, a good number of University teachers under the banner of General Teachers Forum on Tuesday announced demonstrations for resignation of the vice-chancellor.
The teachers announced a three-day fresh programme including protest programmes on Wednesday and a two-hour sit-in from 12:00 noon in front of the administrative building.
The agitation programme also included wearing black badges on August 3 in the campus
