The finance minister AMA Muhith on Thursday said the government has taken a plan to reconstruct the Sylhet central Shaheed Minar following the design of Dhaka central Shaheed Minar.
‘We have planned to reconstruct the Sylhet central Shaheed Minar following the design of Dhaka central Shaheed Minar,’ the minister said while exchanging views with officials concerned in the city’s Chowhatta on Thursday morning.
He assured of giving necessary allocation for the reconstruction of the Shaheed Minar. He asked the authorities concerned of Sylhet City Corporation to complete the construction work of the Shaheed Minar by December this year.
The minister also visited different ongoing development projects in Sylhet city. He visited
the under construction Sylhet Badaghat-Bimanbandar bypass road. The officials of the Roads and Highways Department assured the minister of completing the construction of the road within the
tenure of the present government.
Later, Muhith visited the Sylhet central jail. He said construction of the new jail is progressing
first and after completion of the construction work the prisoners will be shifted there. A central park will be constructed in the place of the old jail, he added.
Sylhet city panel mayor Mohammad Shahjahan, deputy commissioner Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Sylhet district council administrator Md Shahidul Islam and district unit Awami League president Abdus Zahir Chowdhury Sufian and DIG (Prison) Tipu Sultan, among others, were present.
Earlier, the finance minister attended cheque and certificate distribution programme of Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Programme at Sylhet sadar upazila parishad auditorium.
