A court in Dhaka on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by ruling Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony seeking bail in a case for assaulting journalists.
Acting metropolitan sessions judge Md Aktaruzzaman passed the order.
This was the second time that Rony was denied bail.Moving the petition, Rony’s defence counsel Abdullah Al Mansur Ripon mentioned that Rony was a ruling party parliamentarian who got bail earlier and he did not misuse the bail.
All the charges brought against Rony were bailable and he should be granted bail, the counsel argued.
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Md Jahurul Haque earlier had posted for Tuesday the hearing in the petition.
Metropolitan magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman ordered Rony to jail rejecting his petition seeking bail in the case on July 25, when the Detective Branch of police produced him.
On July 24, a warrant for the arrest of Rony was issued in connection with an attempt-to-murder case for assaulting two Independent Television journalists on July 20 at his office.
