A Bangladeshi cattle trader was killed and another injured being trapped into the iron trap of the Indian Border Security Force in the river Sangli in the Shamsernagar border in Lalmonirhat at dawn on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Nurnabi Mian, 24, son of Soleman Ali of Munsirhat village near Shamsernagar border at Patgram upazila and the injured was identified as Mostafa Mian, 26, of the same village.
Border Guard Bangladesh sources said that as the body was inside the Indian territory, it could not be recovered.
The injured Mostafa, however, could manage to enter Bangladesh crossing the river and was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The Patgram BGB camp commander, Subedar Jonab Ali, said that six to seven Bangladeshi cattle traders were bringing Indian cattle crossing the river Sangli in Shamsernagar border on early Wednesday while two of them were trapped into the iron trap.
‘We have sent a protest letter to the BSF in the morning, asking them to hand over the body,’ he said, adding that many traps were placed in the river Sangli by the BSF.
The border guard battalion commanding officer in Lalmonirhat, Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubur Rahman, said that the BGB was trying to get back the body from India.
