The website of the country’s telecom regulator was hacked yesterday and the hackers had put a bunch of links to porn sites with all the posts and notices at the site.
Giasuddin Ahmed, vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), last night said experts were working to recover the site.He said it had not been a massive attack and everything would return to normal within a very short time.
The current BTRC website, launched on January 31, 2012, on the commission’s 10th anniversary, had been suffering from malware infestation for the last couple of months and was left vulnerable.
The site had been on the receiving end of attacks recently after the BTRC blocked a number of blogs, facebook groups and websites.
On an average day, around 3,000 people visit the website, including the commission’s licensees.
Due to some technical difficulties, only a limited number of people could visit the site at once. The commission appointed a web developer firm to improve the site, according to a BTRC official.
