At least three passengers were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident at Surikhali Battola of Rupsha-Bridge By-pass road near Chhachibunia under Batiaghata police station of Khulna district on Saturday noon. Being informed, the Batiaghata thana police rushed to the spot and with the help of local people, recovered the dead bodies and injured passengers and took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
The deceased were identified as Jalal Molla, 52 of Bagerhat, housewife Emili, 60 and her husband Chandmia, 65 of Motbaria, Pirojpur.
Witnesses and police said, a Khulna (Sonadanga) bound passenger bus (Dhaka metro-cha-7821) from Pirojpur district met with the accident when the driver lost control over the steering while over taking and it skidded off the road and knocked roadside big trees at around 12:20 noon.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Aboni Bhuson Das of Highway police who is investigating the case said, police seized the killer bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene. No case was filed till the writing of this report, he added.
