Jahangirnagar University teachers under the banner of General Teachers’ Forum on Tuesday formed a human chain, demanding the resignation of vice-chancellor Professor Anwar Hossain.
Teachers formed the human chain in front of the university administrative building at about 12:30pm as part of their pre-declared fresh agitations programme.
Convener of the platform Professor Hanif Ali conducted the human chain while around a hundred teachers from different disciplines were present, among others.
Professor Hanif Ali said the VC lost moral grounds to continue his post for his alleged failure on the campus since appointment.
‘He did not give any rational responses to the open letter of former pro-VC Professor Farhad Hossain where he mentioned VC’s vast irregularities during his tenure. If he does not resign from his post within next two days, our next protests programme will be made public through a press conference on upcoming Thursday,’ Hanif Ali added.
Earlier, teacher’s platform on Tuesday observed work abstention from 12:00 to 1:00pm as part of their three-day pre-declared fresh agitations programme.
The agitation programme also included all-out strike on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00am to 2:00pm on the campus while all types of transportation facilities would remain suspended.
Demanding the resignation of VC Professor Anwar Hossain, teachers of the university initiated movement since April 7 for not expelling JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra Leauge general secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel for his alleged attack on a teacher.
In this regard, JUTA had been besieging university administrative building for 39 days mentioning VC’s alleged failure in the campus.
Later, teachers had called off demonstrations following a High Court order.
Teachers again announced to continue demonstration against VC after the Eid vacation.
Mentionable, the High Court came up with the order and rule after hearing a petition jointly filed by four teachers and a student on July 7 seeking necessary HC directives.
