The Dhaka South City Corporation on Thursday started selecting tender for leasing out 10 cattle markets under its jurisdiction for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Some bidders alleged that Awami League activists came to the DSCC headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, to show off their power. The DSCC on August 5 invited tenders from interested persons within August 21 and fixed August 22 as the date for opening tenders.
On Thursday, bidders came to Nagar Bhaban while some AL activists started checking other bidders’ tender document.
The city corporation’s chief executive officer, Ansar Ali Khan, told New Age on Thursday that though the tenders had been opened, no cattle market was leased yet.
‘Soon we will select bidders after evaluating the tenders,’ he said.
Some bidders said the highest bid was raised for the Armanitola cattle market, which was about Tk 2 crore. Last year the highest bid for the same market was Tk 4 crore.
Ansar Ali Khan said last year residents of Armanitola had lodged complaint that due to the cattle market roads in the adjacent areas were blocked.
The nine other cattle markets under the DSCC are Jigatola Hazaribag field, Rahmatganj playground, Meradia Bazaar, Sadeque Hossain Khoka field, City Corporation Adarsha School field, North Shahjahanpur Khilgaon Railgate field, Dhupkhola East and Club field, Brothers Union Balu filed, and Postogola Cremation field.
