At least 14 people, including 4 children and six women, were rescued from a human-trafficker at Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district on the border with India on Friday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources said. The rescued persons have been identified as Minoti Roy 35, Setu Bala 65, Saleka Bala 60, Nani Bala 55, Kaloni Rani 30, Sumona Roy 45, Sukumar Roy 42, Sudhir Chandra Roy 53, Ujjal Kumar 40, Shyamal Chandra 43, Akash 11, poly 13, Sujon 3 and Rakhi 6.
BGB officials of Joypurhat-3 Battalion said that all the rescued were hailed from Tilabodu village of Atrai upazila of Naogaon district.
However, the human trafficker, Hajaraat Ali, managed to flee the scene.
On receiving information, a BGB team, led by Md. Atahar Ali rescued them at around 11.30am on Friday.
Later, the rescued persons were brought to the Check post. They said that Hajarat Ali assured them to get jobs in India and other countries like Nepal and Bhutan.
