Oishi gives statement in magistrate’s court

Oishi Rahman, the prime accused in the murder of her parents, on Saturday  admitted to being involved in the murder and said that she was repentant.
Oishi gave her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedures in the chief judicial magistrate’s court after her being remanded in custody for five days.
Oishi’s parents, Special Branch inspector (political affairs) Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman, were found stabbed to death in their flat in a building at Chamelibagh in the capital on August 14.
A lawyer told New Age that Oishi had said that she had killed her parents. She also said that she had done this while she was on drugs and she was repentant for this.
Her domestic help Khadija Khatun Sumi also gave her statement under Section 164.
After recording the statements, metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur sent Oishi and Sumi to the Juvenile Development Centre at Konabari in Gazipur.
Oishi’s friend Mizanur Rahman Roni, another accused in the case, was again remanded in police custody for fives days.
Oishi and Sumi were earlier produced in the chamber of metropolitan magistrate Anwar Sadat about midday.
The defence counsel Prakash Ranjan Biswas told reporters that they would take legal action against Oishi’s statement.
Terming Oishi a teenager and ‘psychologically imbalanced,’ the counsel said that their client had not got sufficient time before making the statement.
He said that they had filed four petitions with the court of metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur.
In the four petitions, the defence demanded that the ‘psychologically imbalanced’ Oishi needed to be remanded on bail, an immediate treatment by forming a medical board and her statement as a teenager under Section 164 of the CrPC should not be allowed, they needed court permission to visit the place of occurrence, and any legal procedure against the girl should be conducted in a juvenile court.
The magistrate scheduled for tomorrow the hearing of the petitions, Prakash Ranjan said.
He alleged that they were in ‘dark’ as they had not been provided with case documents.
Public prosecutor Sultan Ahmed Khan said that Oishi and Sumi had given their statements and their petitions were scheduled for hearing tomorrow.
Inspector Abu Al Khaer Matubbar, who investigating the case, sought Mizanur Rahman Roni to be remanded in custody for 10 more days as he had not given any statement under 164 of the CrPC.
After the hearing, the magistrate allowed him to be remanded in custody for five days.
The public prosecutor said that as Roni had sheltered and given indulgence to Oishi, he should be remanded for further interrogation.
DMP joint commissioner Monirul Islam, at a briefing meanwhile, claimed that they had established that Oishi had participated in the killing of her parents.
He, however, could not confirm whether she alone had killed the couple or there were others helping her.
‘We have sent the dagger, the blood-soaked dress of Oishi and other evidences for forensic tests. We are now looking for another person. The total situation will be clear after we get the forensic test results and arrest the man we are looking for.
Monirul Islam said that Oishi had used 60 sedative tablets in the
coffee to drug her parents and then stabbed them to death.
Although the detectives were claiming that the motive of the murder was drugs, Monirul told reporters that they were yet to run any test on Oishi’s taking drugs.
He said that Oishi had confined her younger brother to the bathroom as he saw her killing their mother.
Monirul said that they could trace a document regarding the birth of Oishi. According to the document, Oishi was born on August 17, 1994 at Mishu Clinic in Khulna.
