Chhayanaut artistes gave a wonederful presentation of some evergreen Tagore numbers that moved the audience on Friday at the Chhayanaut auditorium.
Chhayanaut organised the programme as a belated observance of the death anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet. The organisation could not observe the day in due time because of the month of Ramadan.
The show opened with a chorus rendition of song Adhar amborey prachanda by Chhayanaut artistes. The moving composition gripped the attention of the listeners on the humid evening. Monsoon was the poet’s most favorite of all seasons and he wrote numerous songs incorporating the spirit of monsoon. Such a song Pagla hawar badal diney pleased the audience by reminding them the bliss of monsoon shower when it was rendered in chorus. The chorus presentation of another very popular Tagore song Tor bhabonare ki hawai also delighted the auditorium.
As a versatile poet, Tagore wrote songs that can make listeners both cheerful and melancholic. The Tagore song Amar din phuralo reminded the listeners about the transience of human life when it was rendered by Partho Pratim Roy in solo.
The romantic appeal of Aji hridoy amar jay je bheshe revealed the beauties of life when Dipanjan Mukherjee rendered the song. Another romantic song of Tagore Aji tomay abar chai shonabarey was presented by Naima Islam Naz.
Makchhura Akter and Momi Manjori Chowdhury upheld the spirit of monsoon through their rendition of Badal dhara holo sara and Badol meghe madol saaje respectively. Dipti Das on the other hand, presented a very popular song Badal diner prothom kadom phul describing the beauties of the rainy season.
Naim, Abhoya Dutt, Bikram Das and Sukanta Chakraborty respectively presented Amare Jodi jagale jodi, Bondhu roho roho sathe, Ogo Santali chhele and Jete dao jete dao respectively.
A large audience attended the show. Nabin Sarkar, a student of Stamford University, told New Age that he was delighted by the performance of the artistes. ‘I liked the performances especially the chorus ones.’
Joya, who is also a student of the same university, also opined that she liked the chorus presentations the most. ‘I request Chhayanaut to keep more choruses on musical programmes,’ said Joya.
