Detective branch of Barisal metropolitan police on Sunday seized a trawler, arrested two people and recovered 52 pieces Sundari timbers smuggled from Sundarban mangrove forest.
DB inspector Abdur Razzak said on the basis of a tip-off they raided a fishing trawler, FB Oli, at Lamchhari on Arial Kha River early Sunday.From that trawler the smuggled Sundari timbers worth Tk 3 lakhs were recovered.
The four smugglers on the board of the trawler managed to flee jumping into the river and police detained two crew Babul and Sohag.
The detained said they were going to Tekerhut of Madaripur.
Subinspector Wares lodged a case in this connection with Kawnia police station of the city on Sunday and the court sent the detained to jail.
