Five killed in bomb blast

Suspected Taliban militants yesterday attacked a Nato supply depot in northwest Pakistan while five people were killed in roadside bomb blast in the same region rocked by violence.
Taliban destroyed 11 trucks and 13 containers bound for foreign troops in Afghanistan in the depot attack, police said.
The raid was the fourth on Nato and US military terminals outside the city of Peshawar in the past week alone, highlighting the vulnerability of the key supply route through Pakistan.
The attackers struck before dawn, setting the vehicles ablaze, local police officer Fida Mohammad told AFP, adding that firefighters had managed to salvage nearly 20 other vehicles.
Earlier two children and three militants were killed when Pakistani troops shelled suspected Taliban and al-Qaeda hideouts in a lawless tribal region bordering Afghanistan, officials said yesterday.
Troops pounded a suspected hideout and killed three Afghan militants who were planning attacks on security forces in Khar, the main town in Pakistan’s northwestern Bajaur tribal district, local official Haseeb Khan said.
One mortar shell landed in a house near Khar, killing two children and wounding five other family members, he said.
The shelling of suspected bases started overnight and continued into Saturday morning, officials said.
The Taliban raid came despite an increase in security following two huge attacks last weekend in which hundreds of trucks were destroyed.
