Green right activists on Monday urged Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha to stop destruction in the name of Purbachal New Township Project at Barakau and Parabartha Mouja of Gazipur area.
At a mass gathering, they demanded formation of an investigation committee to measure the extent of damage and exemplary punishment of the Rajuk official for destroying the areas.
Paribesh Bachao Andalan organised the mass gathering at Barakau Bazaar.
Poba chairman Abu Naser Khan said that during the development work in the project area Rajuk filled up water bodies of Barakau, Parabartha and Kalikuthi with sand, bulldozed lichi and mango orchard and plucked medicinal plants.
Rajuk, with the help of local administration, filed cases against villagers, and when the villagers fled from the area, Rajuk contractors conducted the destruction, he said.
Naser demanded formation of an investigation committee to measure the damage caused by the development work of the Purbachal project.
He demanded exemplary punishment of Rajuk official for destroying the areas.
Naser also urged the government to withdraw the false cases filed against the affected villagers.
Nagri Union chairman Md Abdul Kader Miah, Uttarkhan Union Parishad chairman Md Kamal Uddin, Rayerdia High School headmaster Md Shahjahan Sarkar spoke at the gathering.
