BU students continue agitation
Students of Barisal University continued their agitation on Sunday blocking roads and holding procession in the city, demanding immediate arrest of the killer of their fellow Saoda.
The university authorities, suspending classes on Sunday, held a condolence meeting on Saoda on the campus. The meeting was presided over by vice-chancellor Professor Harunor Rashid and addressed, among others, by Nazmul Alam and M Mohsin Uddin, BU teachers.
The BU also observed 3-day mourning wearing black badges, hoisting black flags, organising
discussion and holding prayer session on the campus.
After the meeting, the agitated BU students brought out a protest procession, and blocked the Kakoli crossing in the city.
The students announced that class boycott, road-blockade and hunger strike would be observed demanding immediate arrest of the killer Russell and instigators of the killing and their exemplary punishment.
Police arrested Bipul Baroi, first year accounting student of BU and indicted in Saoda murder case as close friend of Russell.
Bipul maintained contact with Russell over mobile phone before and after the attack on Saoda.
Russell was yet not traced till this report, said investigation officer and Barisal Kotwali police station in-charge Shakhawat Hossain.
Two special teams of Barisal police already in the field to arrest the killer and police continued
raids on village home, houses of friends and relatives of Russell, but all of them went in hiding, he adds.
Police were also searching for the mother of Mahir and one Nasima for
instigating attack on Saoda, the IO said, adding that Russell mentioned their name in his notes left at his mess.
Saoda Mallik, accounting student at Barisal University, was hacked to death by Russell Mia of management department.
