The teachers and students of Rajshahi University on Monday formed a human chain and brought out a mourning procession on the campus demanding exemplary punishment to Shahadat Hossain’s killer. On Friday Rajpara police recovered the body of Shahadat Hossain, a third year student of physics department of RU from an under-construction dormitory at Terokhedia in Rajshahi city. Shahadat was
the son of Lokman Ali from Debinagor in Chapainawabganj.
Initially, police could not identify the address of the deceased. On Sunday the family members identified Shahadat upon seeing his photo on newspaper. The deceased was kept at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue.
However, about four hundred students and teachers of physics
department brought out a mourning procession on the campus around 10:00pm.
Later, they also formed a human chain in front of the university entrance gate at 11:00am demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of Shahadat Hossain.
In the human chain, University’s physics department professor emeritus Dr. Arun Kumer Boshak, chairman of
the physics department Professor Shomnath Bhattacharjya, Professor Aminul Islam, Professor F Nazrul Islam and Professor Saleh Hasan spoke among others.
Rajpara police officer-in-charge ABM Rezaul Islam told New Age that
the police arrested four students of Rajshahi
Institution of Health Technology for their alleged
involvement in the
killing. The arrested were sent to jail after
producing before court, he added.
