The alliance partners of the ruling party Awami League in the 14 party alliance on Tuesday expressed in their view in favour of holding the election after dissolving the parliament.
They expressed the view at the meeting of the alliance at Al president’s Dhanmondi office. When contacted Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party admitted that the issue was discussed in the meeting but he declined to comment on the issue further.
If the election was without dissolving the parliament it must be held by January as per the Constitution but if it was held after dissolving the parliament the election could be delayed by nearly three months.
Insiders in the alliance partners said since the present cabinet and lawmakers would remain in office for three months more if the election would be held after dissolving the parliament, they want to take the opportunity.
