Young Bangladeshi pace bowler Al Amin and Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi grabbed all the headlines at the Dhaka Premier League after the duo reigned supreme over their respective opponents on Thursday. Al Amin scalped 6-16 to lead Abahani Limited to a massive 212-run win over Cricket Coaching School at Fatullah, while Nabi blasted 146 off just 90 balls as Mohammedan Sporting Club registered a 34-run victory over Prime Doleshwar in Bogra.
National opener Junaid Siddique was another standout performer with 95 runs in Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club’s narrow 16-run win against Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Rajshahi.
Abahani Limited v Cricket Coaching School
Abahani romped to a 212-win at the Fatullah stadium after Al Amin ripped through the batting order of CCS, taking 6-18 in eight overs.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Abahani scored 247 all out in 49.4 overs, courtesy of contributions from Indika De Saram (52) and Nazim Uddin (41).
Bishwanath Halder took 5-38 in nine overs to make sure CCS did not have to chase a hefty target, but what followed was beyond anybody’s imagination.
Al Amin and Nabil Samad (4-4 in 6.2 overs) combined to skittle out CCS for just 35 runs in 20.2 overs.
Al Amin accounted for the top five CCS batsmen inside 11 overs, including opener Uttam Sarker, who was clean bowled in the very first delivery of the innings.
CCS had no answer for the Abahani duo, as Nabil took four wickets in quick succession to leave CCS reeling before Al Amin sent back No 10 batsman Bishwanath to complete their misery.
Al Amin was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his outstanding bowling effort.
Mohammedan Sporting Club v Prime Doleshwar
Nabi inspired Mohammedan to a 34-run win over Prime Doleshwar with a whirlwind knock at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
Nabi smashed 13 fours and nine sixes on his way to 146 from just 90 balls, as Mohammedan piled up 307-8 in 50 overs after deciding to bat first.
The most eventful over was the 46th, when Nabi hit four sixes off Farhad Reza. Further blows from the Afghan all-rounder took Mohammedan past the 300-run mark.
In reply, Mehedi Maruf (55) and Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Sampath (68) shared a 112-run second-wicket partnership for Prime Doleshwar, but a lack of assistance from the other batsmen enabled Mohammedan to record the victory.
Nabi was named the man-of-the-match.
Sheikh Jamal v Kalabagan Krira Chakra
Riding Junaid’s 95 from 100 deliveries, the Dhanmondi-based outfit edged Kalabagan to a 16-run win after deciding to bat first and scoring 262-10 in 49.4 overs.
Junaid struck half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes, while national captain Mushfiqur Rahim chipped in with a quickfire 33-ball 43.
Kalabagan’s Sri Lankan recruit Jehan Mubarak took 5-33 in 9.4 overs.
In reply, Kalabagan could only muster 246-9 in their 50 overs despite Naeem Islam’s half-century and Chamara Kapugedera’s 31-ball 46.
Mubarak was rewarded with the man-of-the-match award.
