The Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ahmed Nasir Uddin on Thursday was withdrawn from the post in the back drop of recent incidents of murder and robbery as well as his alleged failure to contain the law and order in the city. Sylhet Metropolitan Police commissioner Nibhas Chandra Majhi in the morning issued the order of withdrawal of the Kotwali officer-in-charge, sources in the police said.
The SMP commissioner in the same letter ordered the Shah Paran police officer-in-charge Akhtar Hossain to join in the position, the sources said.
Businessmen also had brought complaint of negligence in discharging duties during the September 4 robbery in three jewellery shops in the city.
Being contacted, SMP additional deputy commissioner Mohammed Ayub confirmed the news of withdrawal of the Kotwali OC Ahmed Nasir Uddin.
‘The Shah Paran police OC Akhtar Hossain was supposed to join the Kotwali police within Thursday, but he did not join till the afternoon,’ SMP additional deputy commissioner said.
