Defending champions Victoria Sporting Club on Friday urged the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis on Friday to order a replay of their opening Dhaka Premier League encounter against Kalabagan Cricket Academy. The match, originally scheduled on September 10 at the BKSP, was declared abandoned because of unplayable ground condition and the two teams shared points.
Not a single ball could be bowled for two successive days including a reserve day forcing the two teams to split points.
Victoria claimed that the CCDM was aware of the situation before the match but did not take any initiative to shift the venue unlike what they did on many other occasions.
‘This was supposed to be the opening match of the league,’ club secretary Nisaruddin Ahmed told reporters at a press conference. ‘But you saw there was no match at all. We cannot suffer for other people’s negligence.’
Asked how a match can be held when points were already awarded, Nisaruddin said there were many such instances for the CCDM to go beyond the bylaws and resolve a crisis.
‘Even last year we played a rematch against Abahani for the sake of cricket. So I don’t see any reason why the CCDM cannot meet our request this time. We just want to play, nothing else,’ he said.
Victoria, however, said they are not going to boycott the league if the CCDM doesn’t entertain their request.
‘We have already made a formal request through a letter. We will see how they act and only then will make a decision,’ said the club secretary.
Victoria are scheduled to play their second match against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity on Sunday at Fatullah
