Detectives in different drives seized 11 vehicle lifters and recovered seven stolen cars from Sylhet on Thursday. The Detective Branch of Police arrested five members of the vehicle stealing gangs and rescued seven cars from different spots of Sylhet, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in a briefing on Friday.
The arrestees are Md Abdul Khaleque, Roni, Rajib, Ali Ahammad and Md Azim.
Acting on a tiff-off, a team of DB, led by additional deputy commissioner Mukhlesur Rahman, arrested Md Abdul Khaleque and Roni.
On their information, the team arrested Rajib, who dispatches cars to Sylhet. They also arrested Ali Ahammad and aMd Azim, who receives and sells stolen cars, added the DMP official.
Masudur Rahman said the gang usually target parked old model cars which are very easy to unlock. After stealing vehicles, they sent them to remote districts for sale.
ADC Mukhlesur Rahman said that there are different vehicle stealing gangs prowling in the city.
Meanwhile, another team of DB also arrested six robbers from CAD Ghath of Gendaria in the capital while they were taking preparation for robbery.
The arrestees are Nurul Islam Talukder, Md Ismail Hossain Masud, Siddique Sardar, Md Jalil Molla, Md Sohag and Ashraf.
ADC Mukhlesur Rahman said they are members of inter-district robbery gangs and used to rob passengers of vessel and loot gold shops.
