BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia has told the visiting British parliamentary team that her party is ready for dialogue with the government to overcome the prevailing political standoff centring the non-party caretaker government (CG) issue. “If the government is eager, BNP is prepared for a dialogue with it anytime,” BNP vice chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told reporters after the meeting that Khaleda as saying.
Six British lawmakers, led by Anne Main, met Khaleda at her Gulshan residence on Friday evening and discussed the country’s prevailing political issues including non-party caretaker government (CG).
Besides, while talking to media, Bangladesh-born British MP, Rushanara Ali has urged the country’s all political parties to hold a dialogue to reach an understanding over the CG issue.
“We are not interested to mount any pressure on any political parties over any of its domestic issues like CG,” she said.
“Bangladesh is our friend country and so we want holding of dialogue among its political parties so that there is no alternative of this to over come from the prevailing crisis,” she said. Politicians of the country should take measures upholding the people’s interest, she added.
Different ongoing issues including CG and future of the country’s Readymade Garment Sector came up for discussion at the meeting, she said.
Riaz Rahman adviser to the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was also present at the meeting.
The British MPs are also scheduled to hold meetings with Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, some other high-profile politicians and civil society members during their weeklong visit.
They are also likely to visit several apparel factories to observe the working conditions there. The visiting delegates are members of All–Party Parliamentary Group of the UK, came here on September 11.
