A garment worker died after being allegedly pushed by her boyfriend off the roof of a five-storey building at Kalshi Dighir Par area in Chittagong early yesterday.
The deceased, Khaleda Begum Maya, 21, daughter of Abdul Karim, hailed from Katharia under Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong, said police.Maya worked at Regency Garments at Chittagong Export Processing Zone and resided at a rented house in No-2 Miler Matha under EPZ Police Station, said police.
Abul Mansoor, officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station, said Maya was involved with one Idris Ali Russell, 22, who works at a factory in CEPZ and lives in a five-storey building in Kalshi Dighir Par area.
On Friday night, Maya went to Russell’s house and they went up to the roof, the OC said.
At one stage, they argued and Russell may have pushed her off the roof at about 12:30am, he suspected.
Locals nabbed Russell when he tried to flee after the incident and handed him over to police, he said.
Russell at first denied having any relationship with Maya but police found a photo of the two after searching Russell’s room, the OC said.
The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy and a murder case has been filed.
