Govt will be paralysed after Oct 24: Moudud
BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia has said that her party will never allow any election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administration as well as the current voter list. “People have become annoyed with the government due to its acts of repression, misdeeds and corruption. No election would be allowed to hold keeping Sheikh Hasina in office and according to the current voter list,” Khaleda said on Tuesday night. The former prime minister said the government is preparing forces of the Border Gourd of Bangladesh (BGB) to suppress the opposition’s anti-government campaign over non-party caretaker government (CG) issue.
“We are also taking preparation and preparing the people to face the government on the streets,” she warned adding that the government’s attempt to hold one-side election will be resisted if it does not restore the CG provision to the charter before October 25.
She was addressing a view exchange meeting of grassroots level leaders of eight districts under Rangpur division at her Gulshan political office.
Khaleda also handed over financial aids to the family members of BNP leaders who were killed in road accident on their way to Rajshahi after her public meeting held in Rangpur on September 15.
Khaleda said the incumbent Election Commission is totally loyal to the government, which prepared an objectionable voter list to serve the government’s purpose.
“It is impossible to hold an impartial national poll according to the current voter list,” he said.
The government wants to hang on to power forcibly through arranging a partisan election, she alleged.
“We want to give the government a chance to meet our CG demand until October 25. We will see how the government react to our demand by Oct 25,” she said.
“If the government fails to meet the CG demand, we will wage a tough movement after October 25, when the ruling party leaders and ministers of the government will not be able to flee the country,” she added.
In another function, BNP standing committee member, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, on Tuesday threatened to paralyse the government if it fails to accept the opposition’s demand for restoration of the caretaker government (CG) by October 24.
“The movement for CG will be intensified and it will take a serious turn in November.
There’s still time to accept our demand for restoration of the non-party caretaker government, otherwise the government will be crippled,” the senior BNP leader said while addressing a discussion meeting, titled ‘Political crisis and necessity of caretaker government’, at the Jatiya Press Club.
Jatiyatabadi Zia Samaj Kalyan Parishad organised the meeting.
Moudud said, “People are the power of BNP. You’ll see and realise the strength of BNP in November.”
The BNP leader said the next election must be held under a non-party caretaker government, no matter whether the constitution is amended or not.
He accused the government of creating the ongoing crisis over poll-time administration through annulling the caretaker government system, he said, ”The government has created the crisis through introducing 15th amendment in the constitution. So, they must resolve it.”
The former law minister also threatened not to allow the current regime to hold the election under a partisan administration keeping parliament in place. “No party except Awami League will participate in the election if it is held under a party government.”
Moudud later addressed another discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Gano Dal at the Jatiya Press Club.
