Taekwondo player Sraboni Biswas won Bangladesh’s second medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Indonesia on Monday, picking up the bronze medal in the Under-73kg category.
Having beaten Brunei’s Nurulain Jaafar 5-2 in the quarter-finals, Sraboni lost to Indonesia’s Jehabut Selviana 17-3 in the semi-finals to confirm her bronze-medal finish.
Sraboni won the gold medal at the 2011 Mount Everest International Taekwondo Championship in Nepal and clinched bronze at the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka. She was also the gold medallist at the 2009 Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships in Chennai.
Her performance follows that of archer Emdadul Haque Milon, who picked up Bangladesh’s first medal in Islamic Solidarity Games history when he won silver in the 70-metre Olympic recurve event four days ago.
Top Bangladesh Olympic Association officials lauded Sraboni, who returns to Bangladesh with the taekwondo team on October 3, for her remarkable success.
