High officials of the administration and right activists in Barisal on Monday morning formed a human chain and organised rally in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall calling to establish rights of women in all sectors of the society. They protested violence against women and girls, and called for speedy trial and exemplary punishment of the liable. They urged to impose strict restrictions and hard steps against practices of obscene culture to make Bangladesh safe for women and girls.
Barisal district administration and women and child affairs department organised the event, and members and activists of socio-cultural forums, right organisations including huge number of women, girls participated in the protest rally and expressed solidarity with the call.
Talukdar Md. Eynus MP, Divisional commissioner of Barisal Nurul Amin, DC Barisal Md. Shahidul Alam, NGO activists Mousumi Jahan and others addressed the rally.
They calling for putting an end to all kinds of violence and discrimination against women and girls, and said Bangladesh was liberated at the huge sacrifice of women and girls. Now, against its tradition, the country is gradually becoming unsafe for women and girls as violence against them is increasing every day.
Greedy, immoral criminals are trapping women and girls by alluring them in the name of different cultural activities and shows like music video, video film, descent job with good payment and sexually abusing them. Many of the victims are being forced to be used in sex trading. So we should raise awareness not only against violence and rape against women and girls, but also should prevent obscene, immoral cultural activities and practices in the society, the participants of the programme opined.
Absence of proper, speedy implementation and monitoring of the laws related with prevention of torture against women, turning social environment more polluted. This situation instead of making the country safe for women and girls without any discrimination, is endangering them more due to lack of political commitment of the rulers, they said.
