At least 497 women fell victim to violence in September, according to a report of women’s human rights body Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP).
The BMP report was complied based on news items published in 14 local dailies. Of the total victims, 69 were raped during the period while 13 gang-raped and eight were killed after rape. A total of nine women suffered burn injuries in acid attacks and two others died due to acid attacks. Besides, two women were burned to death the last month.
Thirteen women were kidnapped in September and three others trafficked. During the period, a total of 84 women and children were murdered. Of them, 23 were killed for dowry.
Besides, another band of 25 women became victim of dowry during the period while 48 others committed suicide following torture.
In September, a total of eight domestic helps were tortured while two killed and four others forced to kill selves. Twenty-three women died mysteriously last month, the report said.
A total of 20 women suffered physical torture and 53 others were stalked.
