Running Cattle Market At Zero Point
KCC, KMS, local admin at loggerheads
Khulna City Corporation, Khulna District Muktijoddha Sangshad and Khulna district administration are at loggerheads over running a sacrificial cattle market at Zero Point of the city near Khulna–Satkhira Highway. The KCC chief executive officer, Tapon Kumar Ghose, issued an official letter to the deputy commissioner of Khulna on behalf of the mayor on September 19 raising objection to the cattle market, which disrupts transport services and creates server traffic congestion.
On the other hand, commander of Khulna District Muktijoddha Sangshad Sarder Mahabubur Rahman said he had written a letter on August 25 to the deputy commissioner seeking his permission to run the cattle market at Zero Point.
The Khulna police super Md, Golam Rouf Khan, and the Batiaghata UNO, Shanti Moni Chakma, have given their consent to the cattle market, he said.
Quoting directive of the LGRD ministry, the KCC chief executive officer said none would be allowed to run any market by the side of any highway.
When contacted, the deputy commissioner, Mesbah Uddin, said Khulna police super and Batiaghata UNO gave their consent in favour of running the sacrificial cattle market at Zero point beside the Khulna–Satkhira Highway.
‘We have received a petition from the KCC raising objection to the market,’ deputy commissioner said.
The city mayor, Moniruzzaman Moni, when contacted, said none would be allowed to set up any market at Zero point as it was the gateway to Khulna.
The cattle market will not only create severe traffic jam, but also cause insecurity for both sellers and buyers.
‘For this reason, I have requested the deputy commissioner not to permit anyone to run a cattle market there disrupting transport services and causing insecurity,’ mayor said.
The president of Batiaghata uapzila unit BNP, Amir Ejaj Khan, said some Juba League leaders of the Khulna city were going to set up sacrificial cattle market at Zero point under cover of Muktijoddha Sangshad in the name of helping disabled freedom fighters.
However, Khulna district administration is now in a fix what to do in this respect as city mayor is opposing the move while Muktijoddha Sangshad appears to be determined to run the cattle market at Zero point.
