The by-election to the Barguna-2 constituency of the Jatiya Sangsad will be held today without participation of the main opposition BNP.
Two candidates — Shawkat Hachanur Rahman Rimon of ruling Awami League and Golam Sarwar Hiru of Islami Andolon Bangladesh are contesting the polls.The constituency fell vacant following the death of lawmaker Golam Shabur Tulu in a road accident on July 26.
The total voters of the constituency, which consists of three upazilas, is 2,31,173. Barisal regional election officer Mostafa Faruk will act as the returning officer of the election.
Voting will start at 8:00am and continue till 4:00pm without any break. Today is a public holiday in the constituency.
