The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Thursday demanded for keeping sea ports, land ports and customs offices open on a limited scale during coming vacation of Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja. In a press release, the country’s apex trade body said that the ports and custom offices should be kept open during government holidays on September 11-19 to facilitate uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and maintain stability in prices.
The FBCCI has already sent its recommendation to the commerce ministry, the National Board of Revenue and land ports authority in this regard, it said.
‘It is necessary to keep open the ports and customs stations particularly Chittagong and Mongla sea ports, Benapole, Shona Masjid and Hili land ports, and related customs and banks offices so that supply of essential products remains uninterrupted,’ FBCCI said.
The decision will also help to keep the prices of onion, fruits and other perishable items stable, it said.
