A late rally by the south western Monsoon brought heavy to moderate rains across the country since Friday and the rains are not going away before Monday, met office sources said on Saturday.
It brought miseries to many, particularly those who went for a vacation to the sea resort town of Cox’sBazar, where precipitations totalled 102 mm till Saturday evening. In Dhaka city the rains totalled 40mm during the past 24 hours ending at 6 pm on Saturday, largely cooling the temperature, adding a bit of cool in the morning when rained heavily.
Dark clouds shrouded the sun most of the day, which had its touch on the weather after days of hot and humid weather.
In Sylhet city it totalled 10mm on Saturday, the sources said.
After 6 per cent less and 10 per cent less than normal rainfalls respectively during August and September, the south western Monsoon, heralding the rainy season in early June, is leaving by October 10-15, but rains are going to be normal during the month, a long-range monthly forecast by the meteorological department said.
The forecast issued on Thursday night said, a seasonal low pressure may brew a Cyclone in the Bay of Bengal in October and the country’s rivers would have normal flows.
The average evaporation would be 3.25-3.75mm and the average sunlight may stay for 6-7 hours, the met said in its agricultural forecast for the farmers.
