Zimbabwean Hamilton Masakadza hit a sparkling half-century to power Kalabagan Cricket Academy to an impressive six-wicket win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the sixth round of the Dhaka Premier League at BKSP-3 on Saturday.
The right-handed batsman smashed half a dozen fours and seven sixes on his way to a 71-ball 93 as Kalabagan reached 206-4 with nine balls remaining in their chase after restricting Sheikh Jamal to 204-8 on Friday.
In the other matches of the day, Cricket Coaching School snatched their first victory of the campaign after defeating newly-promoted Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity by 45 runs according to the D/L method.
Brothers Union and Kalabagan Krira Chakra gathered one point each after their game could not be completed due to incessant rain.
Sheikh Jamal v Kalabagan Cricket Academy
In the only upset of the sixth-round, Masakadza along with Abdul Mazid (59 not out), steered Kalabagan to a six-wicket win against Sheikh Jamal, who were weakened by the absence of the national players.
Chasing 205 in 34 overs, the newly-promoted Kalabagan were struggling at 33-2 in 7.3 overs before Masakadza along with Mazid resurrected the innings by putting on 131 runs for the third wicket.
Masakadza was looking at ease after arriving at the wicket and did not bother to cut down on his shots that mesmerised the opponents’ bowling attack as they hardly had any answers to his whirlwind knock.
His 71-ball 93 was studded with seven sixes and six fours that gave an indication of his brutality in the rain-interrupted 34-over match.
Apart from Afghan Gulbadin Naib, every other bowler was taken to task by Masakadza as he hit a six off all of them, and he was ably supported by Mazid.
After the departure of Masakadza, Mazid added a valuable 51-run partnership with Sikandar Raza (15) to guide Kalabagan to their chase. Earlier, Sheikh Jamal made 204-8.
CCS v Khelaghar SKS
Resuming the day on 99-5 in 24.1 overs, CCS made 213-9 in their allotted 40 overs, riding on the back of Ferveez Maharoof, who made 59. Asif Ahmed was the other notable scorer with 39 while Faisal Hossain picked up 4-46.
In their chase, Khelaghar were given a revised target of 218 in 40 overs and could muster 172-7 to give CCS their first flavour of victory in the country’s premier limited-over competition.
Brothers v Kalabagan
The game was abandoned due to continuous rain as Brothers were batting on 86-2 in 16 overs, chasing 154 in the 25-over match.
