Jewellery shop looted, 4 stabbed
Some four people were stabbed during a jewellery shop looting at Ganginarpar in Mymensingh town yesterday evening.
A Kabir, proprietor of M Hossain and Brothers Jewellers, and its three employees — Gadashwar Karmaker, Abu Taleb, and Russell — were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.
Police said a gang of miscreants entered the jewellery shop around 7:15pm, creating panic byexploding several cocktails.
The gang then hacked Kabir and the three employees with sharp weapons indiscriminately, injuring them critically, Shahidullah, a nephew of Kabir said.
They later looted the shop and fled the scene, setting off cocktails, he added.
Sajidul Alam Jibon and Shaheen Talukder, both mobile phone cover traders, used to sit next to the jewellers’, said traders, customers and pedestrians started running here and there in fear.
The duo also sustained minor injuries in the cocktail blast.
On information, police rushed to the spot.
Asked about the amount of gold looted from the shop, Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, could not give a definitive response.
