Unidentified armed assailants stabbed to death a security guard of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) at Nurjahan Road of Mohammadpur area in the city early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque, 25, who was guarding the Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) booth at Nurjahan Road, an employee of the Elite Force a private security company, and son of Abdul Rashid from the village of Bhauail in Tarail upazila, Kishoreganj.
Ershadul Haque, 28, another security who was also guarding the same booth along with Enamul told The Independent, “We always discharge our duties in shift basis. I was inside the booth from 10:00pm. Enamul got a call at around 1:00am when he went out talking on the phone and was sitting on the footpath in front of the booth. At around 2:00am I went off to sleep and in the morning heard locals screaming when I found him in a pool of blood with a deep stab injury in the head in an unconscious state.”
Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Biplob Kumar Sarker told The Independent, “Primarily we suspect that the criminal stabbed him in the head with a sharp weapon, although they did not loot money from the booth.”
“According to the supervisors of the security agency hired by the bank, Enamul was last seen in front of the booth at around 3:00am, considering the information, we suspect that the incident might have happened in between 4:00am and 6:00am,” Sarker added.
A team of Mohammadpur police station went to the spot and rescued the body.Law enforcers also picked up the other guard for interrogation, the police official said.The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Sub-inspector Ratan of the Mohammadpur police station said the attackers hit Enamul on the head in front of the booth at Nurjahan Road sometime between 4-5am.He said locals had found him lying in a pool of blood before informing the police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.However, no money had been looted from the ATM booth, SI Ratan added.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be established.
