DSEX lowest since August 5
Dhaka stocks declined for the third trading session on Monday with a decreased turnover as the unease prevailing in the political frontier dejected the investors.
DSEX, the benchmark general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, lost 0.64 per cent, or 25.07 points, to close at 3,857.25 points, lowest since August 5 this year when it was at 3,891.9 points.
DS30, the blue-chip index of the DSE, closed at 1,403.59 points on the day, shedding 1.01 per cent or 14.41 points.
The turnover of the bourse declined to Tk 233.26 crore from the previous trading session’s Tk 246.59 crore.
Market operators said the investors remained anxious as they saw no sign of improvement of the political unrest over the next polls-time government.
They said the institutional investors remained almost inactive as they were watching developments on the political front in the run up to the next general elections.
A decline in foreign investors’ participation in the market in September might made investors more cautious, they also said.
‘No positive surprise in the political frontier kept future direction of capital market indecisive ahead of long closure,’ IDLC Investments said in its daily market commentary.
‘This put down investors’ sentiment during today’s [Monday] session,’ it said.
‘In the meantime, less than expected earning disclosure of ICB inked in investors’ sentiment to decline it by 13.55 per cent and simultaneously pushed NBFI sector to down by 7.64 per cent,’ it also said.
Of the 284 shares and mutual funds traded on the day, 86 advanced, 166 declined, and 32 remained unchanged.
